Well, fairly new; well, sort of new. New-ish; okay, I moved here from London in January 2016 but, due to other work commitments, it’s taken me this long to sort a private practice out. However, I am a psychotherapist and I’ve been working as one since 2004.

I’m a cognitive behaviour therapist and clinical hypnotherapist who’s now running a practice at the rather lovely Southville Clinic on Coronation Road, BS3.

I also work for The Bristol Priory and for the occupational health division of a London-based private healthcare company.

Whilst in London, I ran a private practice in several Central and South London locations and worked for the Royal Brompton Hospital, where I specialised in treating chronic pain conditions and their associated emotional problems.

I also lectured for several years at The College of Cognitive Behaviour Therapies (where I wrote and presented my own specialist workshops on a variety of topics), ran stress management workshops for Lloyds Bank, presented at speaking events for The Lecture Club and other institutions and was a volunteer for health charity Anxiety UK for over a decade.

A former full-time journalist and writer, who knows a thing or two about stress, pressure and deadlines, I can help you manage your problems and achieve your goals using clinical hypnotherapy, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), or a combination of the two therapies together.

CBT follows the philosophy that it is not the events in life that disturb you, but what you tell yourself about those events that disturbs you. So, if you’re thinking, feeling and acting in a way that you don’t like, but don’t seem to be able to change, it’s not because of ‘the thing,’ but what you tell yourself about ‘the thing.’ Change what it is that you tell yourself, and you can change the way you think, feel and act.

Hypnotherapy, meanwhile, is an altered state of consciousness very similar to daydreaming, nodding off or losing yourself in a really good book. In this trance-like state your unconscious mind (think of it as the database of everything you are) is very susceptible to positive suggestion, especially when those suggestions are tied to a goal you already know you want to achieve.

Many studies (Kirsch et al) have shown that these two therapeutic approaches work very well when combined. Both are highly effective in the treatment of a wide range of problems, including addictions, anger management, anxiety disorders (including anxiety, OCD, panic, phobias and psychosexual dysfunction), depression, insomnia, stopping smoking, weight control, work-related stress management and more.

I’ve helped hundreds of people manage their problems more effectively and achieve their goals. Please feel free to contact me if there’s anything you feel I can help you with. My contact details are below.
