easter

It’s Easter, a time for renewal, rebirth and resurrection, a celebration of new life and the passing of spring into summer. It’s also the time for a good old spring clean, literally, metaphorically, physically and emotionally. So, as the days get longer, brighter and warmer and as summer beckons, where do you want to start? Read more

I’ve written about chronic pain conditions before (click here) and how effective both CBT and hypnotherapy are in helping you deal with them. However, a recent study published by the American Psychological Association showed that, when it came to chronic pain, psychological interventions often provide more relief than prescription drugs or surgery. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), male suicides are three times higher than female. And yet, women are more likely to seek out therapy than men. I’ve blogged about this problem before (click here). But, what can be done to help those who need it?  Read more

Depression: Do You Even Have It?

13th January 2014/in CBT, Confidence, Depression, Psychotherapy, REBT/by Daniel Fryer

A recent study found that many people are being wrongly diagnosed with depression and are being medicated when they don’t need to be (click here). Antidepressants are being handed out to people who are just going through a bad patch, or simply feeling a bit down in the dumps about something. In short, they’re being popped on pills whilst simply dealing with the realities of life. But, is depression ever normal and should it always be medicated? Read more

You Can Beat the Bullies

9th September 2013/in Anxiety, Bullying, CBT, Confidence, Cyber Bullying, Depression, Psychotherapy, REBT, Self-esteem/by Daniel Fryer

Bullying, especially its modern-day variant, cyber bullying, is sadly on the rise. And whilst adults can be vulnerable to it, it’s children and teenagers who are copping it the most. Facebook and Twitter are not the safe havens we’d like them to be and. sadly, incidents of bullying-related suicide rarely seem to be out of the papers. However, the psychological harm caused by bullying is preventable, if you know how. One such in-the-know woman was Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady and wife of the 32nd US President, Franklin D Roosevelt. She famously said: “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” Want to learn how not to give that consent away? Then read on. Read more

2nd September 2013/in Anxiety, CBT, Confidence, Depression, Men, Psychotherapy, REBT, Relationships, Self-esteem/by Daniel Fryer

Heartthrob actor and Twilight star, Robert Pattinson (or RPatz) has just popped up in the press saying he suffers from anxiety and struggles with his looks (click here). These days, the media focus as much attention on the naked male physique, as they do on the female form. Depression: It’s not Always as Bad as it Sounds

21st August 2013/in CBT, Depression, Psychotherapy, REBT/by Daniel Fryer

According to research, up to one in five people in Britain are affected by depression at some point in their lives and the use of anti-depressants has reached an all-time high. The word itself has become frightening, even depressing in itself. However, there are many types of depression, including reactive depression, the treatment of which does not necessarily require medication. Read more
