Resolutions: How to Stick to the Plan

7th January 2014/in CBT, Goals, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Mind, Psychotherapy, REBT, Stop Smoking/by Daniel Fryer

Yes, it’s that time of year again. People will be wishing you a ‘happy new year’ for the next two or three weeks and a fair few of you will be talking about (if not exactly making) their New Year’s resolutions. But, a resolution can be made at any time of the year, not just the beginning. Making one is easy; it’s sticking to it that’s the hard part. Hard, but not impossible, if you know what to do . . .  Read more

Work-Stress: Prevention is Better than Cure

12th September 2013/in Anxiety, Bullying, CBT, Confidence, Cyber Bullying, Depression, Goals, HR, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Insomnia, Men, Mind, Panic Attacks, Panic Disorder, Psychotherapy, REBT, Self-esteem, Work Stress/by Daniel Fryer

A recent study has found that UK businesses could be losing more than £1 billion a year due to stressed-out staff taking time off (click here). The report found that about one in five workers (19.6 per cent) have taken time off because of stress, whilst more than a quarter (28.8 per cent), said they felt stressed at work all or most of the time. But, what can be done about it? Read more

Hypnotherapy: how to avoid the clichés

8th April 2013/in Goals, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy/by Daniel Fryer

Recently, as part of research for his role in the hypnosis-led thriller Trance, actor James McAvoy spent time with a hypnotherapist, but failed to achieve a state of hypnosis [click here]. “I was very keen to be suggested,” he said, “to have somebody tell me to run naked or cluck like a chicken or whatever, but it didn’t work for me.” And, therein lies the rub. I would argue that hypnosis failed due to his expectations.  Read more

Nothing to Fear but Fear Itself

19th March 2013/in Anxiety, CBT, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Panic Attacks, Panic Disorder, Psychotherapy/by Daniel Fryer

Okay, so the title of this article may have been purloined from the inaugural address of the 32nd President of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt, but it also serves as an excellent introduction to that aspect of anxiety known as panic disorder, a condition that can be borne of just one or even several panic attacks. A panic attack is several things at once, none of them fun.  Read more

Jealousy: Can you tame the green-eyed monster?

7th March 2013/in CBT, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Jealousy, Relationships/by Daniel Fryer

Jealousy is a complicated emotion and one you experience when you feel your relationship is under threat. It’s an age-old concept and was even mentioned in the bible where (depending on which version you’re reading) it either compared to a cancer or you’re warned that it will rot your bones. But, is jealousy a beast and can it be tamed? Read more

Executive Stress: It’s Tough at the Top

21st January 2013/in Anxiety, CBT, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy, Work Stress/by Daniel Fryer

Last year I posted a blog about work-related stress management (click here). Today, I’m focussing on a specific sub-section of it called ‘executive stress.’ If you are a director or CEO, you know that being in charge is hard. Hiring and firing, and helping everyone else below you isn’t easy. It’s no surprise that C-suite executives come with their own special brand of work-related stress. But, what can you do about it? Am I a Specialist?

14th January 2013/in Anxiety, CBT, Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Insomnia, Pain Control, Panic Attacks, Panic Disorder, Phobias, Psychosexual Dysfunction, REBT, Stop Smoking, Work Stress/by Daniel Fryer

People often ask me if I specialise. It’s a simple question with a slightly less-than-simple answer, as my reply lies somewhere between yes and no. Technically, I specialise in that branch of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) known as rational emotive behaviour therapy (REBT) and clinical hypnotherapy. With them I can successfully help people manage and control a wide variety of problems. However, I do tend to specialise in the treatment of certain conditions over others. Read more

What does it feel like?

13th December 2012/in Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Unconscious/by Daniel Fryer

When someone comes to see you for hypnotherapy, you spend a long time talking about the state of hypnosis; what it is and is not, what it will feel like and so on, as it never truly feels anything like what you think it is going to feel like. Which begs the question, what exactly does it feel like?  Read more

Hypnotherapy: The Best Way to Stop Smoking

11th December 2012/in Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, Stop Smoking/by Daniel Fryer

In the run up to Christmas and the inevitable New Year’s Resolutions that follow, smoking (or, more importantly, quitting) comes to the forefront of many minds. The NHS always gives a big seasonal push to stopping smoking. They’ve got initiatives, supports packs and advice on a vast array of nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs) from patches and gums to sprays and plastic cigarettes. But, did you know that there’s a more effective method than any NRT?  Read more
